Young Life in Nanaimo has a deep history going back to the 1990s and beyond and has many amazing people in the community with long histories with the ministry locally. It was running Club with a volunteer leader team and staff and trips to RockRidge Canyon up until 2024 and has just recently entered into a quiet season while it awaits God to call the next person to spearhead the ministry to Young Life people in this Island harbour city.

North Shore Vancouver has a long Young Life history as well as a small but extremely dedicated Committee. Since Young Life has existed here for over 60 years, North Shore YL has deep connections with churches, schools and other para-church organizations. The opportunity is so rich here! In addition, there is a great need and openness to starting Young Life and WyldLife on Bowen Island, just a short 14-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay.

Young Life North Shore is looking for someone ready to dig in, trust God’s leading and love this community of young people who desperately need Jesus. We want someone who will tenaciously follow God’s lead to build an outreach ministry under the direction and timing of the Holy Spirit. We are expectant and trusting God for what only He can do!

Young Life Port Alberni has a long history going back to the 1990s. They have a dedicated Committee and a base of supporters, along with good relationships with the churches in town. This community is on a beautiful part of Vancouver Island near Tofino, offers an outdoor lifestyle and has a community that can often have teenagers facing many hard challenges. The two recent staff people, Staff Associate and Area Director, both moved away in the fall of 2023 and there is now a group of volunteers continuing to run a club. There is an opportunity for a new staff person to come in and give leadership and support to the volunteers and develop a strong ministry.

Young Life Qualicum Beach has a great history going back to 2007. Doug Lochhead launched and led the work for 16 years, running a vibrant WyldLife ministry and has just recently moved into a head office administrative role, but continues to live in town and would be a great support to a future staff person. There is a solid Committee team that has partnered with Doug over these past many years and is excited for a new staff person to come give leadership to a Club ministry. Qualicum Beach is right next door to Parksville, and together make up the beautiful larger community referred to as Oceanside, that are hotspots for beach tourism in the summer and enjoy a warm sense of small town community all year round.

The Sunshine Coast is unique and beautiful as it has the benefits of being a short 40 minute ferry ride away from Vancouver while having a small-town feel. Two main towns have the majority of the population, Gibsons and Sechelt, and then several other small towns are spread across the 90 minute drive between the Langdale and Powell River ferry terminals. The Coast is also home to the Malibu landing in Egmont, where thousands of teenagers pass through from the US en route to Young Life camp every summer. The Young Life area had active Club ministry for nearly 10 years up until 2021 and has strong adult support in the community and is awaiting the next staff person to lead the ministry to teenagers.

The Tri-Cities (Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam) offer an exciting opportunity to build and grow Young Life in a thriving and diverse community. With over a dozen high schools and several middle schools across the area, the potential for relational outreach is significant. This is new work, but there is already momentum through existing relationships with teens and adults who are eager to see Young Life established locally. The Tri-Cities has a deep history of faithful donors and prayer supporters who have continued to give and believe in the mission. A prayer group meets every second Monday of the month, and early conversations are underway to form a local committee. This role is ideal for someone who is relational, self-directed, and excited to build ministry from the ground up while trusting God to lead each step.

Ucluelet and Tofino would love to see Young Life come to these amazing surfing communities. There is local adult interest and a potential connection to a church as well as the possibility of help with finding housing for the right person who would feel the call to start Young Life in Ukee. These two neighbouring towns are on the west coast of Vancouver Island and share a high school of 250 students

Join the Sea to Sky area and help launch Young Life in Whistler. Working alongside staff in Squamish, the Whistler and Pemberton Staff Associate position leaves lots of room for creativity and growth in this beautiful adventure town. Groundwork has been laid over the last few years and the area is ready for someone to take it to the next level.
